The chapter consists of three parts. The introduction of the chapter (by Epp Lauk) provides an overview of recent debates about the history of censorship in socialist countries and also analyses the function of censorship in Central-East Europe in the socialist period. The introductory part is followed by two case studies on Czechoslovakian and Yugoslav censorship under Socialism (by Petr Samal and Theodora Shek Brnardić).
