Carolus Pelicanus (Karel Pelikán, 1642–1702) swoje wykształcenie muzyczne zdobył w Pradze, tam też wstąpił do zakonu jezuitów. Pracował w wielu ośrodkach prowincji czeskiej Towarzystwa Jezusowego. Jego twórczość znana była jednak także w ośrodkach innych zakonów: cystersów (Oseku), pijarów (Kosmonosy), kanoniczek regularnych (Wrocław), a także w Kromieryżu. Wiadomo też, że Pelicanus był również kompozytorem muzyki teatralnej do spektaklu wystawianego z okazji wizyty królowej Eleonory Habsburżanki w Brnie (1675). Jego doskonały talent retoryczny potwierdzają zachowane do naszych czasów dwie kompozycje publikowane w niniejszym tomie.

Carolus Pelicanus (Karel Pelikán, 1642–1702) received his musical education in Prague, where he joined the Jesuit order. He worked in many centers of the Czech Province of the Society of Jesus. His compositions are listed in the music inventories of Cistercians (Osek), Piarists (Kosmonosy) and survived in the music collection of regular canons in Wrocław (today in Warsaw) and also in Kroměříž. Pelicanus also wrote theatre music for the performance staged on Queen Eleanor of Habsburg's visit to Brno (1675). The present volume brings the two compositions by Pelicanus, which have survived to our times, confirming his excellent rhetorical talent.
