V tomto článku autor sleduje dějiny pojmu “občanská společnost”, včetně předhistorie v starověku, skrz vznik moderního pojmu během osvícenství a končící s proměnou dříve analytického pojmu v normativní pojem v postkomunistickém kontextu. Autor upozorňuje na ztratu kritického pojetí vznikem afirmativního, normativního pojmu.

In this article the author traces the history of the concept “civil society” from its prehistory in antiquity, through the emergence of the modern concept during the Englightenment, and up to the transformation from an analytic category into a normative rhetorical device in the context of post-Communism. The author points to the loss of critical depth that accompanied the transformation of civil society into an affirmative, normative term.
