By referring the topical exhibitions and texts from the interwar period, the text attempts to show that photography of works of art was a valuable issue for the modernist photography. Alongside with the call to assert a new form of Czech identity, the 1930s also brought a surge of renewed interest in the „Czech” Baroque art. Among the photographers who helped to reveal the contemporaneity of Baroque art, Josef Sudek was an important figure.
