V kapitole jsou analyzovány možnosti a limity studia dějin etnologie v období 1945–1989 po stránce teoretické, metodologické a heuristické a je zhodnocen dosavadní český i evropský výzkum dějin oboru. Autor zdůrazňuje potřebu co nejkomplexnější heuristiky, aplikace jasných teoretických perspektiv a potřebu začlenění dějin etnologie do širších sociokulturních kontextů. Na základě stávajících poznatků je k kapitole vymezena základní chronologie vývoje etnologie v českých zemích po roce 1945.

In the chapter author both analyses the limits and opportunities for studies of the history of ethnology between 1945 and 1989 concerning theory, methodology and heuristics, as well as evaluates previous Czech and European research. The author highlights the need for heuristics that are as comprehensive as possible, the application of clear theoretical perspectives and the need to include the history of ethnology into broader sociocultural contexts. Based on existing knowledge, it thus defines the basic chronology of development in the field after 1945 in the Czech lands.
