Záměrem antologie Český strukturalismus v diskusi je v relativně ucelené a koncepčně uspořádané podobě představit vybraná témata, některé tendence a směřování diskusí o českém strukturalismu, kterou vedli zahraniční literární teoretikové a historikové v období od sedmdesátých až do devadesátých let 20. století. Výběr studií byl omezen jednak uvedeným obdobím, jednak zaměřením na poetiku a sémiotiku dvou v zahraniční nejznámějších představitelů Pražské školy − Jana Mukařovského a Romana Jakobsona. Antologie je rozdělena do dvou částí. První část obsahuje studie, které se zabývají českým strukturalismem z hlediska širších vědeckých, kulturních a historických kontextů. Druhá část antologie je vyhrazena případovým analytickým studiím, které se týkají především poetiky a sémiotiky Jana Mukařovského a Romana Jakobsona. Z hlediska oborové příslušnosti patří studie zahrnuté do antologie především do oblasti literární vědy a sémiotiky, významné zastoupení zde má ale také lingvistika, historie, estetika a filozofie.

The aim of the collection Český strukturalismus v diskusi (Czech Structuralism in Discussion) is to present in a relatively comprehensive and conceptually organized manner selected themes and certain tendencies and trends in the discussion of Czech Structuralism as conducted from the 1970s to the 1990s by literary theorists and historians abroad. Apart from the time period, the scope of the collection is further defined by the book’s focus on the poetics and semiotics of the two representatives of the Prague School known best abroad, Jan Mukařovský and Roman Jakobson. The collection is divided into two parts. The first of these comprises studies on Czech Structuralism addressing broader scientific, cultural and historical contexts. The second part of the collection is given over to analytical case studies that primarily concern the poetics and semiotics of Mukařovský and Jakobson. In terms of academic discipline, the studies in this collection can be classified as literary theory and semiotics, although linguistics, history, aesthetics and philosophy are all notably represented.
