An influence of organic fertilization on biomass production and uptake of heavy metals by fast growing trees from moderately and heavily contaminated sites was investigated. The ability to accumulate risk elements in plant tissues has been proved, with cadmium being the most promising element for phytoextraction. Organic fertilization had an adverse effect on the metal uptake. Extremely contaminated soils cannot be remediated directly by plants without prior chemostabilization.
