Rheumatoid arthritis or cystic fibrosis, are characterized by neutrophil infiltration in inflamed tissues. Stilbene derivatives activate apoptosis in different cell lines. Neutrophils, incubated in vitro with resveratrol, pterostilbene, pinosylvin or piceatannol were tested for cytotoxicity and apoptosis by luminometry and flow cytometry. Effects on human neutrophil apoptosis differed according to the molecular structure of the stilbenoids.
