Elevated intracellular level of S-adenosyl-L-homocysteine during seed germination induces concentration dependent and mitotically and meiotically inherited DNA hypomethylation. In addition it leads to developmental defects including aberrant flower morphology and to dramatic upregulation of floral organ identity genes in leaves.
