The Western Derby eland (Taurotragus derbianus derbianus) is threatened species of antelope in West Africa. A comparison of botanical composition of food between the preserve (breeding) and the National park, was done on a base of microscopic analyses of faeces. The composition of diets both in natural conditions and in keeping respectively was very similar and show evidence of good choice of the place for breeding of antelope. Animals consumed food items selectively in savannah as typical browser requiring food components of high quality. Presented study contributes to optimise conditions for antelope breeding and the choice of extra preserved areas where live last animals in natural conditions respectively.
