Leukocytes (especially polymorphonuclear neutrophils-PMN) circulating in the blood as non-adherent cells provide first line of defence of cells in inflammatory response and adhere to endothelial cells adjacent to infected tissue space. The process of bond formation between PMN adhesion receptors and endothelial cell ligand is affected by several factors. Ot these factors, the adhesion force between the PMN and endothelial cells, the kinetics of receptor-ligand interaction and the receptor distribution are of initial importance.
