The bridging of the electrodes by the induced columnar structure of urethane-modified polypropylene glycol (UPPG) is a dominant feature of the response of electrorheological UPPG/dimethylsiloxane polymeric blends to the imposed electric field. The formation of the columnar structure in the quiescents blend is described as the coalescence process of dispersed UPPG droplets due to dipole moments in the droplets. The breakage and formation of the bridging columns in flow is described by a random function affecting the macroscopic flow behaviour of blends modelled by the Maxwell-like rheological equation. The results show that the proposed rheological equation describes well steady and transient shear flows.
