On carbon fibre-reinforced carbon composites, surfaces either with various roughness or with various chemical state were prepared by grinding with metalographic paper 4000, polishing with diamond paste (3/2,1/2 grade) or by coating with pyrolytic graphite, resp. On these surfaces, wetting angle, free polar energy, presence of carbonyl and carboxyl groups and other physicochemical parameters were correlated with adhesion and subsequent growth of osteoblast-like MG-63 cells.
