Biocompatibility of two-dimensionally reinforced carbon-carboncomposites infiltrated and coated with pyrolytic carbon wasevaluated in vitro by seding them with smooth muscle cells derivedfrom the rat aorta. The cells showed better adhesion a changes inproliferation which are correlated with the actual treatment ofcomprosites. The results suggest relatively good biocompatibilityof the pyrolytic-infiltrated and coated carbon composites and theirsuitability for future biomedical applications.
