Trehalose, a nonreducing disaccharide of glucose, decreased the antioxidant/prooxidant imbalance in the corneal epithelium as well as proinflammatory cytokine and matrix metalloproteinase expression.Trehalose enables corneal healing through the suppression of the corneal antioxidant/prooxidant imbalance.
