Some biopolymers such as Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) can be stretched extensively when fractured at -120°C. This property is different when the same polymer is chemically prepared. In our study was our challenge is to break the sample at an even lower temperature and observe the fracture plane by cryogenic electron microscopy. The new cooling system was developed and applied in several experiments described in this study.
