In this brief Perspective we discuss the newly emerging insight into how the cAMP signaling capacity ofBordetella pertussisadenylate cyclase toxin manipulates the differentiation of monocytes and trigger dedifferentiation of the alveolar macrophages to facilitate bacterial colonization of human airways.
