Dogmatism – apart from being irrational – presents an obstacle to the growth of knowledge and to the emergence of the open society. However, is Poppers claim that Popper’s that there can be no critical phase without a preceding dogmatic phase not damaging to his imperative of falsification? Criticism ceases to be the non-negotiable normative methodological principle and the inviolable standard of rationality.
