Experimental studies currently available highlight the proof of biological effects of nanoparticles on the respiratory system with the generation of oxidative stress, pro-inflammatory effects and a possible development of fibrosis, pulmonary emphysema and/or cancer. Experts´ forecast of the European Risk Observatory of the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA) puts nanoparticles at the top of the list of emerging risks. We have just completed and analyzed results of a study performed in February 2012 and, in our opinion, the data bring an innovative view and positive results that may elucidate potential risk of chemically non toxic aerosols.
