Our results suggested that concomitant increase in density of serotonergic terminals and reduction in the number of perforated axospinous synapses in 3xTg-AD mice (a model of Alzheimer’s disease) may act as a compensatory mechanism maintaining synaptic efficacy as a response to the AD cognitive impairment.
