AnotaceStopping power and straggling of 5.0 – 7.2 MeV Lin+ ions (n=2) and 10.9 – 12.3 MeV Cn+ ions (n=4) in polycarbonate (PC) and polypropylene (PP) foils were measured on Tandetron 4130 MC accelerator. The ions scattered from very thin, primary gold target were registered by surface barrier detector partially covered with polymer foil. The stopping power was determined from the energy difference between the RBS signal of direct and slowed down ions. Foil thickness was determined by weighting. The measured stopping powers were compared with those calculated by SRIM 2006 code. The measured stopping powers are higher than calculated ones, the differences being within 0,3-2,9% for Lin+ in PC, 0,2-2,6% for Lin+ in PP, 2,9-5,4% for Cn+ in PC and 3,3-5,7% for Cn+ in PP. Energy straggling determined from the width of the RBS signals corrected for spectrometer resolution, thickness of the gold target and change in the stopping power were found to be higher than those estimated according to Bohr’s theory.
