The measurements revealed the presence of Fe3+ ions in the undoped crystal and Mn2+ ions in the Li-doped crystal with concentrations of about 20-70 ppm. The zero-field splitting parameters are determined with a high precision for both accidental impurities: (i) Fe3+: b0 2 = -0.7567(10) cm-1, b2 2 = - 0.3150(10) cm-1 and (ii) Mn2+: b0 2 = -0.1799 (10) cm-1, b2 2 = 0.1445(20) cm-1. They are in a good agreement with the early data for Mn2+ but differ by about 5% in the case of Fe3+ . We have found that the Li+ doping essentially influences the charge balance in the lattice. The results suggest that the Li doping restores the ionic charges of iron and manganese to 2+, conventional for CdWO4 lattice, diminishing thus their participiation in photoinduced processes.
