Total cord serum IgE was determined by the CAP system and mother´s total IgE levels by nephelometry for 459 births (from Mar 1994 to Jan. 1997) in the Czech Rep. Conc. of PAHs and particulate matter (PM2,5) were measured in ambient air, and arithmetic means were calculated for each gestational month. Heterogeneity by maternal atopy status was evaluated for air pollutants and cigarette smoke. In was found that PAHs and PM2,5 constituents of both ambient air and cigarette smoke appear to influence fetal immune development, particularly among infants whose mothers are not atopic.
