We also present a specific model of each type. Using the top-down approach, we study effects of simultaneous operation of several stabilizing mechanisms, showing, somewhat surprisingly, that they might suppress one another. Through the bottom-up approach, we examine an extent to which food webs formed via speciation vs. invasion events differ, showing that they differ in size, structure as well as propensity to collapse.
