Anotace	Experimental studies focusing on lime production in a traditional field kiln and hot mixing preparation of mortars have been carried out in order to provide reference mortars for a comparative study of binder-related particles found in historic mortars. Optical and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and mercury intrusion porosimetrie were used along with macroscopic observations as the main investigation tools. SEM investigation was carried out on small mortar samples studying calcined limestone particles (fully and partially burned) after they were unloaded from the kiln, as well as, after they matured within the mortar.
