Anotace	Autoimmune dry eye (Sjögren´s syndrome) is a chronic disease which is characterized by inflammation of salivary and lacrimal glands leading to keratoconjunctivitis sicca. We found that oxidative injuries which appear at the ocular surface of patients suffering from this disease, are accompanied by the increase of proinflammatory cytokine exression leading to the induction of enzymatic systems that generate reactive oxygen species and nitric oxide. This results in oxidative and nitrosative stress to the eye. From clinical point of view it is important that the severity of microscopical disturbances goes parallel with the level of severity of dry eye symptoms.
