A murine model cell line for human papilloma virus 16-associated tumours deficient in MHC class I molecules expression showed surface re-expression of these molecules after treatment with selected epigenetic agents. Treated cells became susceptible to lysis by specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes. Epigenetic induction of MHC class I molecules surface expression was associated with the up-regulation of antigen-presenting machinery (APM) genes.
