The advantage of the ion beam analysis (IBA) methods lies in minimal destruction of the sample. The IBA methods employ various ion beams with kinetic energy ranging from hundreds of keV up to tens of MeV. Common beam currents vary from nA to μA. For production of the probing ions different types of electrostatic accelerators are utilized. The new HVEE Tandetron MC 4130MC accelerator (unique in Czech Republic) enables us to extend the present analytical possibility. Ion beams from the Tandetron accelerator may be used for synthesis or modification of materials and structures by ion implantation. One of possible applications is the modification of the surface properties of synthetic polymers with the aim to improve their wettability and biocompatibility.
