Our approach is based on optical detection of yellow intermediates (?_max = 398 nm) produced by silica entrapped cells of /Pseudomonas species /2 (P2).In our experiments the cells of P2 strain were immobilized into the sol-gel in the absence or in the presence of biphenyl (for improve of reusability of immobilized cells). Biosensor was exposed to a commercial PCBs mixture Delor103 (D103).The results show that sol-gel entrapped cells are able to produce yellow intermediates (?_max = 398 nm) in presence of D103 in the range of 1-20 mg.L-1. The selectivity of the method for some selected PCB congeners was also tested. It was determined for two PCB congeners (2,4,4´-trichlorobiphenyl and 2,4´,5-trichlorobiphenyl).
