Anotace
Domestic pig represents an appropriate model for odontogenic research due to similar tooth pattern (incisors, canines, premolares, molares) and tooth type (brachyodont) as human. Moreover, pig teeth also form two generations. In this one year project, a unique morphological study on developing pig dentition was performed. Both, upper and lower jaws were mapped and tooth development assembled in 3D models. Pig embryos from embryonic day 20 to 40 were used to follow tooth budding and dental lamina formation. Particularly, incisor dental lamina and the cheek region were investigated. Primary thickening of the oral epithelium on the jaw arches seemed to contain cellular material of both, dental and vestibular lamina. Moreover, the dental lamina of both, incisor and cheek region developed individually. Despite more research needed to elucidate tooth formation in the pig model, data from this project contribute to understanding of complete dentition development which can not be followed in mice due to a long diastema region and different tooth formula to human. Results of further molecular studies on pig odontogenesis could be applied directly in human molecular dentistry.
