    AnotaceThe aims of this work was to estimate woody tissue respiration in Norway spruce (Picea abies [L.] Karst) stand, to determinate factors influencing woody tissue respiration (temperature, elevated CO2) and to develop an automatic system for continuous measurements of woody tissue (stem) CO2 efflux. Measurements of woody tissue (stem and branch) respiration were carried out (1999 – 2002) using an infra-red gas analyzer (Licor-6200) operating in a closed system on Norway spruce stand at Experimental Ecological study site of Bily Kriz in the Moravian-Silesian Mountains - Beskydy, Czech Republic. Stem woody tissue respiration was measured on Norway spruce trees cultivated in two different CO2 concentrations. Ambient treatment (A-ambient) contains ambient [CO2] approximately 350 umol mol-1 and elevated treatment (E-elevated) contains elevated [CO2], i.e. ambient plus 350 umol mol-1. Four stems and eight branches were permanently monitored at forest stand and six trees for each CO2 treatment in two different planting conditions (three trees in sparse part and three trees in dense part). Woody tissue (stem and branch) temperature and woody tissue (stem and branch) increment was measured over the whole experiment for both forest and CO2 enrichment conditions.
