Slovotvorný systém starší češtiny vykazuje oproti systému dnešní češtiny drobné, dobově podmíněné diference, protože není tak pevně konstituován: a) Obecně v protikladu k současné slovotvorbě připisujeme větší váhu fundujícím slovesům než jejich participiálním a adjektivním derivátům. Proto u mnohých slov vydělujeme složené sufixy (prohlíže-nka), nikoli sufixy elementární připojované k slovesným derivátům (*prohlíže-n-ka). b) Systém onomaziologických kategorií nutně neobsahuje sémanticky zcela koncízní podkategorie, slovotvorná motivace je u lexémů z téhož sémantického okruhu často individuální a jednotlivé lexémy pak patří k různým onomaziologickým kategoriím. c) Rozsáhlejší lexikální materiál, než jaký měli k dispozici naši předchůdci, nám umožňuje další zpřesňování jednotlivých systémových poznatků.
In comparison with the word-formative system of contemporary Czech, the system of the older Czech shows small differences dependent on the period, because it is not so fixed: a) Generally, in opposition to the contemporary word formation, we derive the names of instruments rather from verbs than from their participial or adjectival derivatives (pomazánka [,spread, paste‘] < pomazati [,to spread‘]). Therefore, we separate compound suffixes (prohlíže-nka [,telescope‘]) in numerous words and not those elementary suffixes connected to verbal derivatives (*prohlíže-n-ka). b) The system of onomasiological categories does not necessarily include semantic wholly concise subcategories, word-formative motivation often is individual in lexemes from the same semantic field and the respective lexemes belong to various onomasiological categories. c) A more extensive lexical material, than our predecessors used to have at their disposal, enables us further specification of individual systemic pieces of knowledge.
