Multisciplinary approach (geochemistry, biology) was used for description of the environment of the extreme acidic environment of Rio Tinto, Spain, since this locality could be used as Martian Earth analogue due to geochemistry similar to Planum Meridiani, Mars. Seven different instruments were used for characterization of rock geochemical composition, detection of presence of bacterial sequences in rock and water samples and evaluation of photochemical performance of the phototreophic biofilms.
