Artificial materials become more and more important cell carriers for tissue engineering and tissue replacemnet. Like natural ECM, they regulate the gene expression in cells, and as a consequence, the adhesion, viability, proliferation and differentiation of the cells. Cell attachment and spreading is strongly influenced by the physiochemical properties of the material surface, namely its chemical composition, surface energy, polarity, wettability, roughness, topography and mechanical properties
