In the paper extreme events in the Sudetes Mountains are reviewed and their formative role in the longterm landform evolution is discussed. Extreme phenomena of significant geomorphic impact include debris flow, landslides, gully erosion and floods. The primary factor controlling the occurence and effects of extreme geomorphic events in the Sudetes appears to be human impact, chiefly extensive deforestation of mountain slopes.
