In current study transgenic rats overexpressing mutant human SOD1 were used as a model of fALS. We have found that grafting of MSC into symptomatic rats had a significant effect on motor activity and grip strength and longer lifespan if compared with the control group of animals. Transplanted cells survived and migrated in the spinal cord until the end stage of the disease without any side effects. Combined delivery of BM-derived MSC, therefore, could be an attractive approach for bench-to bedside studies in the treatment of ALS.
