The study examines and compares association between positive and negative temperature anomalies (hot and cold spells) and mortality in the population of Prague and the whole Czech Republic. We focus on differences in mortality impacts in individual seasons, several groups of population (younger/older, men/women), and in mortality due to cardiovascular diseases and other causes of deaths. The main differences in the mortality response in Prague and in the other regions of the Czech Republic are that the population of Prague is more vulnerable to high temperatures in summer, whereas it is less impacted by low temperatures in winter.
