In our work, we studied the behaviour of aqueous solutions of cryoprotective agents (Me2SO, trehalose, antifreeze protein ApAFP752) upon freezing/thawing. We characterized the course of phase change of all the s ranging from 20°C to -170°C using differential scanning calorimetry (shape and position of freezing/thawing curves) and Raman spectroscopy (molecular and intermolecular structure). We correlate our experimental results with molecular dynamics‘ modelling of interactions of solution constituents. We also show that antifreeze protein ApAFP752 has thermal hysteresis activity and is able to increase viability of Xenopus oocytes when microinjected into them prior to cryopreservation.
