200 years ago, on January 14, 1810, a strong earthquake with the epicenter some 60 km west of Budapest occurred in the northern part of the Pannonian Basin in Hungary. The limits of the affected region were shaped as a non-regular oval around the present town Mór (originally Moór), which is located between two ridges of low hills, the Bakóny Forest and the Vertés Hills. During the earthquake, the market town Mór suffered considerable damage (the event is commonly known as the Mór earthquake); twelve other settlements in Mór’s vicinity were seismically damaged as well.
