Quantitative vessel mapping on increment cores. A critical comparison of image acquisition methods.

Popis: The dataset includes results from different imaging methods used to extract ring-specific quantitative wood anatomy (QWA) parameters at the tree-ring scale. For each annual ring, we calculated the five most commonly used anatomical parameters: Mean Lumen Area (MLA), Vessel Density (VD), Vessel Number (VN), Mean Hydraulic Diameter (Dh), and Relative Conductive Area (RCA). QWA was conducted on four wood samples representing a range of porosity types, from diffuse-porous to ring-porous species, specifically Carpinus betulus, Alnus glutinosa, Fagus sylvatica, and Quercus robur. Each sample was analysed using three imaging methods: surface photography, wood anatomical micro-sections, and X-ray micro-CT scanning. The dataset includes tree-ring measurements spanning at least 10 years for each species: Quercus robur (2006–2018), Fagus sylvatica (1995–2017), Alnus glutinosa (1989–2017), and Carpinus betulus (1960–2018).
