This 14th edition of the global International Bordetella Symposium assembled pertussis experts and returned after 62 years to Prague, where the whole meeting series started in 1962, once the Czechoslovak pertussis vaccine has been introduced into pediatric use. The 220 experts from countries covering all continents attending the meeting in person and 72 attendees connecting online, presented and discussed for 5 days research and strategies aiming to counter the current global resurgence of the potentially fatal whooping cough disease. Aspects of the epidemiology, clinical manifestations, vaccination strategies against pertussis and the immunology and basic biology aspects the bacteria of the genus Bordetella that cause respiratory infections in mammals. These topics were duly covered by presentations of the state-of-the -art knowledge on the matter, involving also major global pertussis vaccine manufacturer representatives. The meeting represented a milestone in the global efforts to restrict the current massive resurgence of pertussis disease.
