The performance of two types of hydride atomizers used in atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS) represented by dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasmas and externally heated quartz tube atomizer (QTA) is investigated for Sb, Pb, Te, Sn and Ge as model analytes. The sensitivity of these atomizers in hydride generation (HG)-AAS is correlated with atomization efficiency and spatial distribution of free analyte atoms as determined by laser induced fluorescence (LIF).
