Cet article retrace les apparitions successives d’une vue aérienne de la Tour Eiffel dans des publications françaises et tchèques entre 1909 et 1928. Reproduite dans les publications de Karel Teige ou de Le Corbusier et jusque dans les œuvres de Robert Delaunay, l’image a changé de contexte, subi des ajustements formels et vu sa signification infléchie par les discours qui l’accompagnaient. Retraçant les remplois successifs de cette prise de vue, cette étude de cas permet de mesurer de façon concrète l’intensité avec laquelle circulent les reproductions photographiques au sein de l’avant-garde et ses retombées sur la création artistique.

This book chapter traces the successive appearances of an aerial view of the Eiffel Tower in French and Czech publications between 1909 and 1928. The image proved particularly inspiring to the avant-garde as it switched contexts from Karel Teige and Le Corbusier’s publications to the paintings of Robert Delaunay. By pointing out the changes in formal adjustment and meaning that the image underwent, this case study provides a measure of the circulation of photo-reproductions within avant-garde networks and their repercussions in artistic work.
