The spectral behavior of the spin probe 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-1‑piperidinyloxy (TEMPO) in acetonitrile (ACN) as a representative of aprotic polar medium in the bulk and in 2D-confined states of three silica matrices differing in the pore topology, pore size and pore wall composition using electron spin resonance (ESR) is presented. The changes in interaction and dynamic parameters of TEMPO due to spatial restriction of ACN and pore surface chemistry are related to phase behaviors from differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The obtained ESR findings are compared with those for apolar and protic polar media in the same native and modified confining silica matrices.
