This paper examines the impact of two reforms of parental allowance in the Czech Republic on the labor market status of women 3–5 years after childbirth. In contrast with previous literature, we consider not only the timing of post-birth employment but also distinguish between unemployment and inactivity among mothers who are not employed. This allows us to explore the unintended effects the reforms had on post-leave unemployment and inactivity.
