Study reports on the complex data set of emission factors (EF) of selected pollutants from combustion of 5 fuel types in 6 different domestic heating appliances. The effect of fuel as well as the effect of boiler was studied. 46 combustion runs were performed during which numerous EFs were measured including the EFs of particulate matter, CO, polyaromatic hydrocarbons, hexachlorobenzene, polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and furans. The highest EFs of non-chlorinated pollutants were measured out for old-type boilers with manual stoking and natural draft. The emissions of the above-mentioned pollutants from modern-type boilers were 10 and more times lower. The decisive factor for emission rate of non-chlorinated pollutants was the type of appliance; the effect of fuel plays only a minor role. The emissions of chlorinated pollutants were proportional mainly to the chlorine content in fuel, but also the type of appliance influenced the rate of emissions significantly.
