Ferroelectric liquid crystal - multiwall carbon nanotube (FLC-MWCNT) composite systems have been prepared by doping by MWCNT (with concentration x= 0, 0.01, 0.03, 0.10) of the liquid crystal matrix. Mesomorphic and dielectric behaviour of pure and composite systems have been studied in order to understand the effect of anisotropic impurity (MWCNTs) near the N*-SmC* and SmC*-Cr phase transitions. Thermo-optical studies inferring no significant change in the presence of MWCNTs. Small shift of 5 K in the clearing point has been observed for all the composite systems. Dielectric measurements reveal that the MWCNTs influenced the permittivity: composite systems show the increase in the permittivity at higher MWCNTs concentration. For pure FLC and composite systems relaxation time, relaxation frequency and dielectric strength have been evaluated and discussed. Influence of MWCNTs concentration on conductivity of composite systems has been also established.
