A flat pebble with a chopper type edge and a shallow groove recessed by picking, intended to fix the tool onto a handle like an axe, came to light in the context of the Middle Palaeolithic Eemian small tool industry from the Ládví hill in Prague 8-Ďáblice. Considering the fact that this is a rare and relatively inconspicuous treatment, which testifies to the existence of early forms of tools of historical significance, we draw attention to it as an as yet unregistered phenomenon in the Middle Palaeolithic.
