From used thermal methods follows that the principial changes in marble decomposition occur in several temperature intervals, depending on marble composition. According to optical microscopy, the calcite grains can show marked morphological anisotropy in one direction. Therefore the thermal expansion had to be measured in three different (perpendicular each other) axis.
