A wide range of software programs is available for use in the research and development of materials, metallic and non-metallic systems and their processing. They include databases for different materials, such as metals, alloys, polymeric materials, ceramics, composites, glasses, etc., and comprehensive compilations of phase diagrams for binary, ternary alloys and non-metallic systems. Of interest are also calculation software programs that enable phase equilibrium calculations to be performed easily and reliably for many different materials. Most important for the industrial use of these programs is their practical application in process research and development. They also find extensive use as teaching tools.
